The fear of El Nino is now reinforced by the report from Climate Prediction Center of April 13, 2023. Thailand is now experiencing high temperature of 40 c or higher in many areas. The humidity is low than there is no precipitation. The probability of El Nino increases and the timing moves earlier to May – July 2023 that is the rainy season in Thailand. We are concerned if the amount of rain during this year rainy season would be significantly less than that of last year, impacting harvest of crops in Thailand, not only pineapple.

When compare the actual volume of 2022 to estimate of 2023 and the demand by canneries for period January to July 2023, it is expected to reduce by 20% of total supply and 17.5% of demand by canneries. This is the result of unfavorable weather condition.
Consequently, the pineapple processing industry has revised the harvest forecast for 2023 from 1.23 million tons to 1.01 million tons for processing.
